Ontem revi na Amazon Prime Video, o western SHALAKO, que o canadense descendente de ucranianos Edward Dmytryk dirigiu em 1968.
O astro de 007 James Bond (à época já tinha feito 5 filmes como o agente secreto inglês) se encontrava com a musa mundial francesa Brigitte Bardot, no auge de sua beleza, aos 34 anos.
Ele é o cowboy descendente de índios SHALAKO. Ela é a Condessa Irina Lazaar, uma nobre européia que veio com um grupo de nobres europeus conhecer o selvagem oeste americano. Mal orientados, ele terminam emboscados por índios apaches e traídos pelo guia contratado, interessado nas joias da turma.
Somente a aparição de Shalako vai lhes proporcionar a chance de sobreviver aos ataques dos selvagens e à hostilidade do oeste.
O elenco, além de Connery & Bardot, tem Stephen Boyd (BEN-HUR), Jack Hawkins (A PONTE DO RIO KWAI), Peter van Eyck (THE LONGEST DAY), Honor Blackman (a Pussy Galore de GOLDFINGER 007), Woody Strode (habituée dos westerns celebrizado como o gladiador negro do SPARTACUS de Kubrick).
Connery estava no estrelato. O incrível sucesso da franquia Bond lhe permitia escolher papéis que lhe interessavam. Shalako era atraente, corajoso e proativo. Um personagem sob medida para firmar sua fama.
Brigitte Bardot – lindamente deliciosa – desfilava sua beleza invulgar e teve na Condessa Irina, uma mulher ousada, destemida e exímia atiradora. A certa altura, ela diz “atirar em um índio não é como caçar um leão.”
Mesmo estando longe dos melhores westerns, SHALAKO entrega o que promete. É um bom veículo para BB e Connery, dando entretenimento ao espectador nos seus 113 minutos.

Sean Connery, the famous James Bond (at the time he had already made 5 films as the English secret agent) was with the French world muse Brigitte Bardot, at the height of her beauty, at the age of 34.
He is the cowboy descendant of indians SHALAKO. She is Countess Irina Lazaar, a European noblewoman who came with a group of European nobles to explore the wild American West. Misguided, they end up ambushed by Apache Indians and betrayed by the hired guide, interested in the gang’s jewels.
Only Shalako’s appearance will give them the chance to survive wildling attacks and hostility from the west.
The cast, in addition to Connery & Bardot, includes Stephen Boyd (BEN-HUR), Jack Hawkins (THE BRIDGE ON THE KWAI RIVER), Peter van Eyck (THE LONGEST DAY), Honor Blackman (007’s Pussy Galore), Woody Strode (habituée of westerns famous as the black gladiator of Kubrick’s SPARTACUS).
Connery was in stardom. The incredible success of the Bond franchise allowed him to choose roles that interested him. Shalako was attractive, brave and proactive. A character tailored to establish even more his fame.
Brigitte Bardot – beautifully delicious – paraded her unusual beauty and had in Countess Irina, a daring, fearless and expert shooter. At one point, she says “shooting an Indian is not like hunting a lion.”
Even though it is far from the best westerns, SHALAKO delivers what it promises. It’s a good vehicle for BB and Connery, giving viewers entertainment throughout its 113 minutes.
