Uma jovem gerente de um restaurante italiano da Califórnia é escolhida para uma viagem com todas as despesas pagas para Florença, onde fica a matriz da rede com direito a conhecer o sedutor fundador e CEO da empresa.
Carente, depois de um rompimento traumático com seu ex, Amber (Alison Brie) embarca com tudo para sua primeira viagem para o exterior, com esperanças de uma viagem inesquecível.
O que parecia ser uma comédia romântica tipo UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN, desde o início da viagem a Florença se mostra diferente. O motorista anfitrião gentilmente “apreende” os passaportes de todos. A villa paradisíaca onde iriam parar vira um hotel mabembe próximo. Os convidados são proibidos de sair para conhecer as redondezas. Há um clima estranho no ar.
O anfitrião principal Nick (Alessandro Nivola, um dos astros da moda do cinema italiano) aparece ocasionalmente para exercer seu fascínio sobre os hóspedes. Naturalmente, ele foca principalmente na carente Amber, disposta a ser seduzida.
Uma personagem interessante que circula pelo local é a misteriosa Kat (Aubrey Plaza), uma leitora de Gabriel Garcia Marquez que se encarrega de fazer passeios desautorizados pelas redondezas, onde se permitem pequenas transgressões.
Acho que do meio para o final, o diretor Jeff Baena e o roteiro do filme (que a própria Alison Brie co-escreveu) perderam a mão. O filme vira um misto de thriller, drama e alegoria sobre a licenciosidade européia.
De qualquer sorte, há coisas boas em SPIN ME ROUND. Melhor do que parece ser a comida servida nos restaurantes da franquia, cujo slogan dá idéia perfeita do que se trata: “Pasta la vista”. Arrrgh!

What seemed to be a romantic comedy like UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN, from the beginning of the trip to Florence proves to be different. The host driver kindly “seizes” everyone’s passports. The paradise villa where they would stop turns into a nearby Mabembe hotel. Guests are prohibited from going out to explore the surroundings. There is a strange mood in the air.
The main host Nick (Alessandro Nivola, one of the fashion stars of Italian cinema) appears occasionally to exert his allure on guests. Naturally, he mainly focuses on the needy Amber, willing to be seduced.
An interesting character that circulates around the place is the mysterious Kat (Aubrey Plaza), a reader of Gabriel Garcia Marquez who is in charge of making unauthorized walks through the surroundings, where small transgressions are allowed.
I think midway through to the end, director Jeff Baena and the film’s script (which Alison Brie herself co-wrote) lost their way. The film becomes a mix of thriller, drama and allegory about European licentiousness.
Anyway, there are good things about SPIN ME ROUND. Better than it looks is the food served in the franchise’s restaurants, whose slogan gives a perfect idea of what it’s all about: “Pasta la vista”. Arrrgh!
