Os excelentes François Cluzet e Emmanuelle Béart vivem Paul e Nelly, um jovem e apaixonado casal que é dono de um hotel em uma praia do litoral francês. As locações em Castelnaudary, Aude são magníficas.

Between 1958 and 2009 he made 75 films, including great ones like THE BUTCHER, INSPECTOR BELLAMY and CRIMINAL STORY.

One of his classics is TORMENT (L’ENFER), now available on MUBI.

The excellent duo of French artists François Cluzet and Emmanuelle Béart play Paul and Nelly, a young and passionate couple who own a hotel on a beach on the French coast. The locations in Castelnaudary, Aude are magnificent.

As life goes on, Paul develops a neurosis that his wife is cheating on him with all the men close to the couple. Madness takes over him to the point of making the couple’s life (and the hotel’s operation) hell.

Béart’s unbelievable beauty is an essential element of Chabrol’s magnificent film, creating several scenes in which the delusional husband is consumed by “imagining” his wife’s betrayals with other men.

The film is as well done as it is harrowing, focusing in detail on the evolution of Paul’s madness.
