Na minha opinião, UM LUGAR BEM LONGE DAQUI (WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING), filme dirigido pela cineasta e roteirista Olivia Newman é um dos melhores deste ano. Aluguei na Apple TV, mas já está disponível em outros streamings.
Baseado no best seller de Delia Owens, o filme conta a vida solitária da “Garota do Pântano”(Marsh Girl), Kya Clark, uma jovem moradora do interior da Louisiana que é abandonada pela mãe, pelos irmãos e pelo pai abusivo, ficando sozinha desde adolescente.
Protegida por um casal de comerciantes locais, cresce e consegue se sustentar. Kya conhece o jovem pescador de camarão Tate Walker (Taylor John Smith), que a ensina a ler, incentiva a desenhar as criaturas da natureza e por ela se apaixona.
Quando Tate vai para a Faculdade, Kya volta a ficar sozinha e é presa fácil para os galanteios do bonito e rico Chase Andrews (Harris Dickinson) que um dia aparece morto, levando a Polícia local a acusar Kya do crime.
Não há dúvida que ao lado da história muito bem escrita e desenvolvida, a atriz londrina Daisy Edgar-Jones é a alma do filme. Voltando a fazer uma interpretação naturalista (como no mega sucesso NORMAL PEOPLE), Daisy cria uma Kya frágil, tímida, solitária, carente e desprotegida mas que em diversos momentos do filme surpreende como uma mulher forte e determinada.
Outro personagem de destaque é o advogado que defende Kya no julgamento, Tom Milton (David Strathaim como sempre excelente). Seu senso de justiça e empatia pela desamparada Kya vai mudar o rumo do julgamento.
WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING (ONDE OS LAGOSTINS CANTAM) é um belíssimo filme. Tem uma parte formal (fotografia, direção e roteiro) impecáveis, mas é na mescla de gêneros que a diretora Newman acertou em cheio. O filme é um drama social (sobre a condição da mulher), tem romance, tem uma intriga policial, é drama de tribunal e, ao mesmo tempo, consegue ser um ensaio sobre aqueles que não se conformam com o que a vida lhes apresenta.
Falta dizer que o filme ainda tem um final surpreendente e maravilhoso. Mais uma qualidade desta obra inteligente, sensível e criativa.

Returning to a naturalistic interpretation (as in the mega-success NORMAL PEOPLE), Daisy creates a fragile, shy, lonely, needy and unprotected Kya, who at various moments in the film surprises us as a strong and determined woman.
Another prominent character is the attorney defending Kya in the trial, Tom Milton (David Strathaim as always excellent). His sense of justice and empathy for the helpless Kya will change the course of judgment.
WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING is a beautiful film. It has an impeccable formal aspect (photography, direction and script), but it is in the mix of genres that director Newman hit the bull’s eye. The film is a social drama (about the condition of women), it has romance, it has a police intrigue, it is a courtroom drama and, at the same time, it manages to be an essay on those who do not conform to what life presents them with.
Needless to say, the film still has a surprising and wonderful ending. Another quality of this intelligent, sensitive and creative work.
