Eu vi o musical O FANTASMA DA ÓPERA na Broadway meia dúzia de vezes. A mais marcante foi a vez que levamos (eu e a Ana Cássia) nossa filha Bruna, então com algo como 12 anos, para ver o musical e antes de entrar ela disparou um “obrigado, hoje vocês estão realizando um dos meus sonhos.” Foi o show que eu mais chorei vendo a obra de Andrew Lloyd Webber na produção impecável de Cameron McIntosh.
A história clássica de Gaston Leroux (1910) é fantástica. Nos bastidores da Ópera de Paris, um ex-cantor com o rosto deformado comanda tudo impondo decisões aos novos donos e aos artistas, retaliando quem ousa desafiá-lo. As coisas se complicam quando ele se apaixona pela estrela de um novo musical, a bela Christine Daé.
Quem puder ver o musical na Broadway ou no West End em Londres (onde vai seguir encantando) terá uma experiência maravilhosa.
Para quem não pode, recomendo o filme que o cineasta Joel Schumacher fez em 2004, com Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler e Patrick Wilson. Tem muitas coisas discutíveis, mas a trilha sonora e a história de amor eterna estão lá.
Outra dica: Brian de Palma fez um filme maravilhoso modernizando a história. Foi O FANTASMA DO PARAÍSO, de 1974. Uma obra prima.
I’ve seen the musical THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on Broadway half a dozen times. The most remarkable was the time we took (Ana Cássia and I) our daughter Bruna, then around 12 years old, to see the musical and before entering she said “thank you, today you are making one of my dreams come true.” It was the show that I cried the most seeing Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s work in Cameron McIntosh‘s impeccable production.
Gaston Leroux‘s classic story (1910) is fantastic. Behind the scenes at the Paris Opera, an ex-singer with a deformed face rules everything, imposing decisions on new owners and artists, retaliating against anyone who dares to challenge him. Things get complicated when he falls in love with the star of a new musical, the beautiful Christine Daé.
Anyone who can see the musical on Broadway or in London’s West End (where it will continue to enchant) will have a wonderful experience.
For those who can’t, I recommend the film that filmmaker Joel Schumacher made in 2004, with Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler and Patrick Wilson. There are a lot of debatable things, but the soundtrack and the eternal love story are there.
Another tip: Brian de Palma made a wonderful film modernizing the story. It was PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (1974). A masterpiece.
