Fazia horas que eu queria rever o filme original THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, que Norman Jewison fez em 1968, com os extraordinariamente charmosos Steve McQueen e Faye Dunaway. Não que eu desgoste da refilmagem de John McTiernan (1997), com Pierce Brosnan e Rene Russo, a qual acho muito boa.
Mas o original é sempre o original.
O filme de Jewison é um cult movie justificado.
Tudo é puro charme: os créditos quadriculados, a montagem dinâmica de Hal Ashby, a trilha sonora de Michel Legrand (com a clássica canção THE WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND cantada por Alan e Marilyn Bergman) o clima de sensualidade crescente entre a inspetora de seguros e seu alvo de caçada, um rico e charmoso ladrão internacional.
Não tem como deixar de dizer que Steve McQueen (no auge de seu “coolness”) e Faye Dunaway arrasam como Thomas Crown e Vicky Anderson.
Doug Hayward e Theadora van Runkle (THE GODFATHER) foram os responsáveis pelas roupas incríveis que McQueen e Dunaway desfilam pelo filme. Relógios Patek Philippe e carros Rolls Royce enfeitam a trama.
Se você quiser ver do que é feito um cult movie, vá atrás de THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, o original de 1968, dirigido pelo canadense Jewison.
É puro charme. E um baita filme.
I’ve wanted to revisit the original film THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, which Norman Jewison made in 1968, with the extraordinarily charming Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. Not that I dislike the remake of John McTiernan (1997), with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, which I think is very good.
But the original is always the original.
Jewison’s movie is a justified cult movie.
Everything is pure charm: the checkered credits, the dynamic editing by Hal Ashby, the soundtrack by Michel Legrand (with the classic song THE WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND sung by Alan and Marilyn Bergman), the atmosphere of growing sensuality between the insurance inspector and her hunting target, a wealthy and charming international thief.
It’s impossible not to say that Steve McQueen (at the height of his “coolness”) and Faye Dunaway rock like Thomas Crown and Vicky Anderson.
Doug Hayward and Theadora van Runkle (THE GODFATHER) were responsible for the incredible outfits that McQueen and Dunaway wear throughout the film. Patek Philippe watches and Rolls Royce cars grace the plot.
If you want to see what a cult movie is made of, go look for THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR, the 1968 original, directed by Canadian Jewison.
It’s pure charm. And one hell of a movie.
