ANNE RICE’S ENTREVISTA COM O VAMPIRO: Série da AMC Moderniza Narrativa em Produção Impecável

O cineasta Neil Jordan fez o filme ENTREVISTA COM O VAMPIRO, baseado no best seller de Anne Rice, em 1994, com Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst e Antonio Banderas. O filme não me capturou. Achei a história entre Lestat e Louis de Lac melosa e enfeitada demais sem nada acrescentar às clássicas histórias de vampiro. Prefiro muito mais o clássico NOSFERATU, os filmes com Christopher Lee ou o magnífico BRAM STOKER DRACULA, de Francis Coppola.

O Canal AMC (o mesmo de THE WALKING DEAD) lanço agora ANNE RICE’S INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, uma releitura modernizada da história. Vão ser 8 episódios.

A trama retoma o personagem do jornalista chamado pelo vampiro Louis de Lac para contar sua história. Há modernizações que soam artificiais: o encontro dos dois é em Dubai, cujas ricas paisagens são exibidas volta e meia, numa espécie de documentário (certamente pago a peso de ouro) do National Geographic.

O fio central passou a ser o racismo estrutural, esta doença moderna e universal, já que Louis de Lac (Jacob Anderson) foi adaptado para ser um homem afro que vira vampiro pelos caninos afiados de Lestat (Sam Reid). A ambição de Louis decorre diretamente das injustiças e vilanias que sofre sendo negro.

A produção é impressionante. Certamente muito e muito longa metragens lançados no cinema não dispões dos recursos de produção da série.

Outra vez, a história de Lestat e Louis de Lac não me pegou.

Vi dois episódios e voltei a achar tudo muito rococó e com detalhes demais. Também há violência e cenas gráficas em excesso. Acho que a lição dos mestres de que menos é mais não foi aprendida.

Mas para os milhões de fãs do romance de Anne Rice certamente vale uma olhada na série.

I found the story between Lestat and Louis de Lac to be too corny and over-the-top without adding anything to the classic vampire stories. I much prefer the classic NOSFERATU, the films with Christopher Lee or the magnificent BRAM STOKER DRACULA, by Francis Coppola.

The AMC Channel (the same of THE WALKING DEAD) now released ANNE RICE’S INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, a modernized retelling of the story. There will be 8 episodes.

The plot takes up the character of the journalist (Eric Bogosian) called by the vampire Louis de Lac to tell his story. There are modernizations that sound artificial: the two meet in Dubai, whose rich landscapes are shown every now and then, in a kind of documentary (surely paid for in gold) by National Geographic.

The central thread became structural racism, this modern and universal disease, as Louis de Lac (Jacob Anderson) was adapted to be an Afro man turned vampire by Lestat’s (Sam Reid) sharp canines. Louis’ ambition stems directly from the injustices and villainies he suffers as a black man.

The production is impressive. Certainly many and very feature films released in the cinemas do not have the production resources of the series.

Again, the story of Lestat and Louis de Lac didn’t get to me.

I watched two episodes and I found it all very rococo and with too much detail. There is also violence and graphic scenes in excess. I think the masters’ lesson that less is more has not been learned.

But for the millions of fans of Anne Rice’s novel the series is certainly worth a look.
