A comédia VEJA COMO ELES CORREM (SEE HOW THEY RUN), dirigida pelo cineasta inglês Tom George (ganhador do BAFTA TV de Melhor Diretor por THIS COUNTRY) é um belo filme que satiriza as tramas policiais de modelo “whodunnit”.
A trama foca a peça teatral de Agatha Christie, THE MOUSETRAP (A RATOEIRA), em cartaz no West End Londrino desde 1952. Exemplo maior das tramas policiais em que o charme é descobrir o assassino, A RATOEIRA é focalizada como o ponto de partida da trama de SEE HOW THEY RUN.
Um produtor americano, um roteirista e um diretor resolvem levar A RATOEIRA para o cinema.
Enquanto brigam entre si por todos os aspectos da produção, o diretor Leo Kopernick (Adrien Brody que narra o filme ao melhor estilo William Holden em SUNSET BOULEVARD) aparece morto no palco da peça.
São chamados para investigar o veterano e alcoólatra Detetive Stoppard (Sam Rockwell, cada vez melhor) e a caloura Constable Walker (Saoirse Ronan). Os dois têm visões diametralmente opostas sobre uma investigação o que faz com que o mais velho siga dizendo a ela “não tire conclusões apressadas”.
O elenco ótimo tem Ruth Wilson, David Oyelowo, Tim Key, Sian Clifford, Oliver Jackson, Margareth McCarthy.
Como fã de tramas policiais, achei o filme delicioso em desconstruir uma a um dos clichês do gênero. Dei muita risada.
Mas, como diz uma advertência explícita no final do filme, não revele o assassino a ninguém. Seria tirar a graça de uma comédia bem acima da média.
The comedy SEE HOW THEY RUN, directed by English filmmaker Tom George (BAFTA TV winner for Best Director for THIS COUNTRY) is a beautiful film that satirizes “whodunnit” model crime plots.
The plot focuses on the play by Agatha Christie, THE MOUSETRAP, which has been running in London’s West End since 1952. A major example of police plots in which the charm is to discover the murderer, THE MOUSETRAP is focused as the starting point of the SEE HOW THEY RUN plot.
An American producer, a screenwriter and a director decide to take THE MOUSETRAP to the movies.
As they fight each other over every aspect of the production, director Leo Kopernick (Adrien Brody who narrates the film in the best William Holden style in SUNSET BOULEVARD) turns up dead on stage.
They are called to investigate veteran and alcoholic Detective Stoppard (Sam Rockwell, getting better each movie) and freshman Constable Walker (Saoirse Ronan). The two have diametrically opposed views on an investigation which causes the eldest to keep telling her “don’t jump to conclusions”.
The great cast has Ruth Wilson, David Oyelowo, Tim Key, Sian Clifford, Oliver Jackson, Margareth McCarthy.
As a fan of detective plots, I found the film delightful to deconstruct one by one of the genre’s clichés. I laughed a lot.
But, as an explicit warning at the end of the film says, don’t reveal the killer to anyone. It would take the fun out of a well above average comedy.
