Em 1973, o diretor Fred Zinnemann levou às telas o best seller do autor Frederick Forsyth, O DIA DO CHACAL, um thriller de espionagem sobre a tentativa de assassinato do General Charles de Gaulle pelo misterioso assassino profissional conhecido apenas pelo codinome de Chacal.
O filme, estrelando Edward Fox e Michael Lonsdale foi um grande sucesso de crítica e público, rendendo 7 indicações ao BAFTA, onde venceu o prêmio de Melhor Montagem.
Houve uma segunda adaptação para o cinema, em 1997, quando o diretor Michael Caton-Jones escalou Bruce willis (Jackal), Richard Gere (como em ex-guerrilheiro do IRA) e Sidney Poitier (como uma agente do FBI). A modernização da história a fez perder boa parte do charme do original.
Agora se anuncia que os produtores de DOWNTON ABBEY (Carnival Films) estão produzindo uma série – cujas filmagens iniciam em março de 2023 – retomando o personagem do Chacal.
A idéia da série, a ser veiculada no streaming Peacock é retomar a caçada ao assassino pelos serviços de inteligência, enquanto ele prepara um assassinato que vai abalar o mundo.
É aguardar para ver o quanto do clima incrível da história original de Forsythe será captado neste nova adaptação.

The film, starring Edward Fox and Michael Lonsdale, was a huge success with critics and audiences, earning 7 BAFTA nominations, where it won the award for Best Editing.
There was a second film adaptation in 1997, when director Michael Caton-Jones cast Bruce Willis (Jackal), Richard Gere (as an ex-IRA guerrilla) and Sidney Poitier (as an FBI agent). The modernization of the story has lost much of the charm of the original.
Now it is announced that the producers of DOWNTON ABBEY (Carnival Films) are producing a series – whose filming begins in March 2023 – resuming the character of the Jackal.
The idea of the series, to be aired on Peacock streaming is to resume the hunt for the killer by the intelligence services, as he prepares a murder that will shake the world.
It’s just waiting to see how much of the incredible mood of Forsythe’s original story will be captured in this new adaptation.
