Ontem fui olhar o primeiro episódio (são 8 nesta primeira temporada) da série da NETFLIX, O GABINETE DE CURIOSIDADES DE GUILLERMO DEL TORO.
É uma atualização de séries que já marcaram época no passado, como a definitiva ALÉM DA IMAGINAÇÃO (THE TWILIGHT ZONE), produzida por Rod Serling e que teve mais de 150 capítulos entre 1959 e 1964. Eram histórias ligadas ao sobrenatural mas que sempre deixavam uma ponta de contato com os dramas da realidade.
Guillermo del Toro é um super bem sucedido Produtor e Diretor Mexicano, ganhador do Oscar e do BAFTA por A FORMA DA ÁGUA, além de ser responsável por outros títulos muito mais importantes, como O LABIRINTO DO FAUNO. Em muitos pontos de sua filmografia mostrou sua relação com os mistérios do oculto.
Esse primeiro capítulo que vi mostra um homem (Tim Blake Nelson) que participa de um esquema para comprar barato depósitos onde pessoas pobres depositam quinquilharias. As pessoa atrasam os aluguéis e o responsável pelo espaço (Demetrius Grosse) simula leilões para destinar as coisas restantes nos depósitos a preços vis. Depois ele revende as coisas e divide os lucros. Certo dia, ele arremata o Depósito 36, onde o falecido dono guardava coisas ligadas a ritos demoníacos. Não tinha como dar boa coisa.
A produção é caprichada e a abertura – com o próprio Del Toro – é o melhor do capítulo.
Esse tipo de história não é muito minha preferência.
Mas para os fãs do gênero, O GABINETE DE CURIOSIDADES DE GUILLERMO DEL TORO é um prato cheio.
Yesterday I went to watch the first episode (there are 8 in this first season) of the NETFLIX series, GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S CABINET OF CURIOSITIES.
It is an update of series that have already marked an era in the past, such as the definitive THE TWILIGHT ZONE, produced by Rod Serling and which had more than 150 chapters between 1959 and 1964. There were supernatural histories always with a point of contact with the dramas of reality.
Guillermo del Toro is a super successful Mexican Producer and Director, Oscar and BAFTA winner for THE SHAPE OF WATER, in addition to being responsible for other much more important titles, such as PAN’S LABYRINTH. At many points in his filmography he showed his relationship with the mysteries of the occult.
This first chapter I saw shows a man (Tim Blake Nelson) who participates in a scheme to buy cheap deposits where poor people deposit old things. People delay rents and the person in charge of the space (Demetrius Grosse) simulates auctions to allocate the remaining things in the warehouses at vile prices. Then they resell the stuff and split the profits. One day, he buys Storage 36, where the late owner kept things connected with demonic rites. I couldn’t give a good thing.
The production is neat and the opening – with Del Toro himself – is the best of the chapter.
That kind of story isn’t really my preference.
But for fans of the genre, GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S CABINET OF CURIOSITIES is a full plate.
