Eu vi pela primeira vez o filme FAMA, de Alan Parker, lá pelos idos de 1980, em uma sessão lotada do Cine Victória. Lembro perfeitamente que na cena final, a da formatura dos jovens artistas esperançosos de mudar o mundo, quando iniciou a música “I Sing the Body Electric” o cinema vibrava tanto que as pessoas pareciam a ponto de levantar e dançar.
FAMA tem grande parte de seu sucesso, devido a uma jovem negra de voz tão poderosa quanto angelical, Irene Cara, uma menina nascida na Flórida, que a trilha sonora de Michael Gore imortalizou. Irene cantava em solo duas canções que se tornaram clássicas: FAMA e OUT HERE ON MY OWN.
Irene Cara, morreu ontem, aos 63 anos.
Irene Cara ainda marcaria sua carreira cantando outro sucesso definitivo dos musicais dos anos 80. A emblemática WHAT A FEELING, de FLASHDANCE, que deu a Irene um Oscar, um Globo de Ouro, um BAFTA e um Grammy.

I first saw the film FAME, by Alan Parker, back in the 1980s, in a crowded session at Cine Victoria. I remember perfectly well that in the final scene, the graduation scene of young artists hoping to change the world, when the song “I Sing the Body Electric” began, the cinema vibrated so much that people seemed about to get up and dance.
FAME owes much of its success to a young black woman with a voice as powerful as angelical, Irene Cara, a girl born in Florida, whom Michael Gore‘s soundtrack immortalized. Irene sang solo two songs that became classics: FAME and OUT HERE ON MY OWN.
Irene Cara died, yesterday, at 63.
Irene Cara would still mark her career singing another definitive success of the musicals of the 80s. The emblematic WHAT A FEELING, by FLASHDANCE, which gave Irene an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Grammy.
