A NETFLIX colocou no ar o filme O PÁLIDO OLHO AZUL, dirigido pelo cineasta americano scott Cooper, responsável pelos ótimos CRAZY HEART e HOSTILES.
A trama mostra um veterano detetive aposentado que é chamado pelos oficiais da Academia Militar de West Point para resolver o mistério de um cadete que teria se suicidado por enforcamento com seu cadáver violado logo após.
O afamado Augustus Landor (Christian Bale, como sempre impecável) vai esbarrar no Código de Silêncio, pelo que agrega à investigação um jovem recruta chamado Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling), anos depois o escritor mundialmente conhecido.
Os dois encaram cada obstáculo como um incentivo a buscar o esclarecimento sobre os macabros acontecimentos de West Point.
O elenco do filme tem Gillian Anderson, Toby Jones, Timothy Spall, Simon McBurney (o nome de Hitchcock do personagem parece uma deliciosa homenagem), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lucy Boynton, Fred Hechinger, Joey Brooks e o genial Robert Duvall.
Um cast destes e uma história das mais inspiradas baseada no livro de Louis Bayard (um especialista em dramas históricos) asseguram suspense, mistério, twists e a atenção ininterrupta do espectador.
Li algumas críticas menos elogiosas ao filme. A mim pareceram injustas. Na minha opinião, o filme atinge seu objetivo de trazer um mistério denso, pesado e trágico. Eu segui cada passo da história com atenção.
Certamente, O PÁLIDO OLHO AZUL não é um filme para todos os gostos. Para os fãs de filmes policiais “old school” é um tiro certo.
NETFLIX aired the film THE PALE BLUE EYE, directed by American filmmaker Scott Cooper, responsible for the great movies CRAZY HEART and HOSTILES.
The plot shows a veteran retired detective who is called by the officers of the West Point Military Academy to solve the mystery of a cadet who would have committed suicide by hanging with his body violated shortly afterwards.
The famous Augustus Landor (Christian Bale, as always impeccable) will bump into the Code of Silence, which is why he adds to the investigation a young recruit named Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling), years later the world-renowned writer.
The two see each obstacle as an incentive to seek clarification about the macabre events at West Point.
The film’s cast has Gillian Anderson, Toby Jones, Timothy Spall, Simon McBurney (the character’s Hitchcock name seems like a delightful homage), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lucy Boynton, Fred Hechinger, Joey Brooks and the brilliant Robert Duvall.
Such a cast and a most inspired story based on the book by Louis Bayard (a specialist in historical dramas) ensure suspense, mystery, twists and the uninterrupted viewer attention.
I have read some less than complimentary reviews of the film. To me they seemed unfair. In my opinion, the film achieves its goal of bringing a dense, heavy and tragic mystery. I followed every step of the story carefully.
Certainly, THE PALE BLUE EYE is not a film for everyone’s taste. For fans of “old school” mistery movies it’s a sure shot.
