Na manhã do dia 24 de janeiro, com uma pontualidade britânica, a Academia de Hollywood colocou no ar em diversas plataformas, o anúncio dos indicados ao Oscar 2023. Teve até a exibição em Realidade Virtual, no Meta Watch, para quem dispõe do óculos especial que coloca você dentro do espetáculo.
Riz Ahmed (ótimo ator e ganhador do Oscar) estava ao lado da lindíssima Alisson Williams (CORRA) para lerem os nomes dos indicados, em programa bem rápido.
Como sempre, houve obviedades, confirmações, surpresas e omissões.
Entre os dez indicados a melhor filme do ano, identifico dois blocos: os filmes mais autorais e independentes, como o campeão de indicações e favorito do ano TUDO EM TODO LUGAR AO MESMO TEMPO, cujo nome foi lido 11 vezes. É, sem dúvida, um dos títulos do ano. Lançado nos cinemas e no streaming, agradou críticos e público. Tem Michelle Yeoh maravilhosa, Jamie Lee Curtis arrebentando como a vilã fiscal do IR e a volta de Key Huy Kwan (que o crítico do UOL Roberto Sadovski humoradamente chamou de “pessoa fofa do ano”).
Neste grupo alternativo também estão o alemão NADA DE NOVO NO FRONT (NETFLIX) teve nove indicações, aparecendo inclusive nas categorias de Melhor Filme Estrangeiro (é o favorito, embora eu torça para ARGENTINA 1985) e Melhor Filme.
OS BANSHEES DE INISHREIN – que está na HBO MAX – é o filme que eu mais gostei. Também foi indicado nove vezes. É um lírico filme irlandês, de paisagens bucólicas e humanismo acima da média. Presta atenção até nos animais. Colin Farrel e Brendan Gleeson estão impecáveis como os amigos que deixam de ser amigos, provocando a violência irracional do mundo de hoje.
ELVIS foi incensado com oito indicações. Gosto demais do filme de Baz Lurhan, como sempre com todo brilhantismo, exageros e impacto de suas obras. E o jovem Austin Butler, em trabalho incrível como o King.
Os FABELMANS, de Steven Spielberg abre o grupo dos filmes de grandes estúdios. Conseguiu sete indicações. Acho que ganha duas ou três. john Williams se tornou a pessoa mais idosa a ser indicada a um Oscar. Sempre merece ganhar. WAKANDA FOREVER apareceu cinco vezes na lista. Acho que mais do que merecia. Mas teve a primeira indicação importante de atriz para um filme da MARVEL, Angela Basset.
Os dois campeões de bilheteria do ano, TOP GUN: MAVERICK e AVATAR, O CAMINHO DA ÁGUA tiveram, respectivamente seis e quatro indicações. Hollywood precisa de mais estouros de bilheteria nesta fase pós pandemia.
Há um filme que merece todos os elogios, é requintado e ao mesmo tempo autoral. É TÁR, de Tod Field, um sujeito que faz um filme a cada dez anos, todos muito bem feitos. Cate Blanchett faz um trabalho de primeira linha, uma daquelas interpretações que a gente conta nos dedos. A Lydia Tár é antológica e eterna. Acho que é o prêmio mais barbada do ano (o outro é PINOCCHIO como animação). TÁR é tão bom que acho que não ganha outros prêmios. Embora merecesse todos.
O pessoal do James Bond está feliz. Duas Bond Girls indicadas ao Oscar de Melhor Atriz: Michelle Yeoh e Ana de Armas. 007 manda!
No dia 12 de março, domingo (e até lá), vamos outra vez ouvir uma saraivada de críticas e palavras de desprezo ao Oscar, seus erros e omissões.
Mas, pela 95a. vez, quando o palco se iluminar dia 12, os olhos e emoções de todos nós estarão pregados na telinha vendo mais um Oscar. Mesmo dos detratores. Como sempre.
On the morning of January 24, with British punctuality, the Hollywood Academy aired the announcement of the Oscar 2023 nominees on several platforms. There was even a display in Virtual Reality, on Meta Watch, for those who have special glasses that puts you inside the show.
Riz Ahmed (great actor and Oscar winner) was next to the beautiful Alisson Williams (RUN) to read the names of the nominees, in a very quick program.
As always, there were truisms, confirmations, surprises and omissions.
Among the ten nominees for best film of the year, I identify two blocks: the most authorial and independent films, such as the champion of nominations and favorite of the year EVERYTHING IN EVERYWHERE AT THE SAME TIME, whose name was read 11 times. It is, without a doubt, one of the titles of the year. Released in theaters and streaming, it pleased critics and audiences. There’s a wonderful Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis kicking ass as the IRS tax villain and the return of Key Huy Kwan (who UOL critic Roberto Sadovski humorously called “cute person of the year”).
Also in this alternative group are the German ALL QUIET IN THE WESTERN FRONT (NETFLIX) which had nine nominations, including appearing in the categories of Best Foreign Language Film (it is the favorite, although I support ARGENTINA 1985) and Best Film.
THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN – which is on HBO MAX – is my favorite movie. It has also been nominated nine times. It is a lyrical Irish film, with bucolic landscapes and above average humanism. Pay attention even to the animals. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are impeccable as the friends who fail to be friends, sparking the mindless violence of today’s world.
ELVIS was incensed with eight nominations. I really like Baz Lurhan‘s film, as always with all the brilliance, exaggerations and impact of his works. And young Austin Butler, in incredible work as King.
The FABELMANS, by Steven Spielberg opens the group of films from major studios. It got seven nominations. I think it takes two or three. John Williams became the oldest person to be nominated. As always he deserves to win.
WAKANDA FOREVER appeared five times on the list. I think more than it deserved. But it did get her first major acting nomination for a MARVEL movie, Angela Basset.
The two box office champions of the year, TOP GUN: MAVERICK and AVATAR, THE WAY OF WATER had, respectively, six and four nominations. Hollywood needs more blockbusters in this post-pandemic phase.
There is a film that deserves all the praise, it is exquisite and at the same time authorial. It’s TÁR, by Tod Field, a guy who makes a movie every ten years, all very well done. Cate Blanchett does a top-notch job, one of those interpretations you can count on your fingers. Lydia Tár is anthological and eternal. I think it’s the easiest prize to guess (the second is PINOCCHIO). TÁR is so good that I don’t think it wins other awards. Though he deserved it all.
James Bond people are happy: two Bond Girls nominated for Best actress: Michelle Yeoh and Ana de Armas. 007 rules!
On March 12th, Sunday (and until then), we will once again hear a barrage of criticism and words of contempt for the Oscars, their mistakes and omissions.
But, for the 95th. time, when the stage lights up on the 12th, the eyes and emotions of all of us will be nailed to the small screen watching another Oscar. Even from detractors. Like always.
