Desde que vi o trailer do filme TO CATCH A KILLER, dirigido pelo cineasta argentino Damián Szifrón, fiquei ansioso por assistir. Szifrón foi o diretor do magnífico RELATOS SELVAGENS.
Esta semana o filme ficou disponível para alugar na Apple TV+ americana. Foi minha escolha. No Brasil terá o terrível título de SEDE ASSASSINA.
Shailene Woodley vive uma policial de rua da cidade americana de Baltimore que está entre as dezenas de pessoas chamadas para investigar um tiroteio que deixou dezenas de vítimas na véspera de ano novo.
A policial Eleanor já foi recusada pelo FBI por seu passado envolvimento com drogas e respostas desaforadas na entrevista. Mas as talentosas observações dela no caso chamam a atenção do Chefe do FBI, o Agente Lammark (o excelente ator australiano Ben Mendelsohn , de OUTLANDER e ROGUE ONE).
Os dois vão caçar o assassino misterioso, apesar das autoridades preferirem aparecer rapidamente com uma prisão qualquer para acalmar o público.
TO CATCH A KILLER é um drama muito dark. Szifrón utiliza a história policial como motivo para mergulhar na miséria humana e investigar a fundo a raiva do matador, da policial e os desafios de um mundo de aparência e superficialidade.
Os diálogos são de cortar os pulsos. Há cenas que deixam os personagens (e o espectador) perplexo sobre o mundo me que vivemos.
Shailene outra vez se mostra uma das melhores atrizes de sua geração. É ótima.
Ainda estou digerindo o filme.
Já conclui que é muito bem feito.
Mas vou pensar nele por dias a fio.
Ever since I saw the trailer for the movie TO CATCH A KILLER, directed by Argentine filmmaker Damián Szifrón, I’ve been looking forward to watching it. Szifrón was the director of WILD TALES, a great Argentine movie.
This week the film became available for rent on American Apple TV+. It was my choice.
Shailene Woodley plays a street cop in the American city of Baltimore who is among the dozens of people called to investigate a shooting that left dozens of victims on New Year’s Eve.
Police officer Eleanor has already been turned down by the FBI for her past involvement with drugs and outrageous answers in the interview. But her talented observations on the case catch the attention of the head of the FBI, Agent Lammark (Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn, OUTLANDER and ROGUE ONE).
The two go hunting for the mysterious killer, despite the authorities preferring to come up quickly with a random arrest to appease the public.
TO CATCH A KILLER is a very dark drama. Szifrón uses the police story as a reason to delve into human misery and investigate in depth the rage of the killer, the policewoman and the challenges of a world of appearance and superficiality.
The dialogues are wrist slitting. There are scenes that leave the characters (and the viewer) perplexed about the world we live in.
Shailene proves once again that she is one of the best actresses of her generation. She is great.
I’m still digesting the movie.
I’ve already concluded that it’s very well done.
But I’ll think aboutTO CATCH A KILLER in the next days or weeks.
