Quando eu li, pela primeira vez, que Steven Soderbergh estava envolvido, como Produtor Executivo, em uma nova série original da NETFLIX, o western GODLESS, já me preparei para ver um trabalho de alto nível.
GODLESS é uma série obrigatória para os fãs do western, um dos mais espetaculares gêneros do cinema.
Um sanguinário fora-da-lei persegue um ex-parceiro que ao abandonar a quadrilha, foi se abrigar em um rancho mantido por uma mulher solitária na cidade de LABELLE, no Novo México, onde quase somente mulheres vivem em função de um acidente na mina de ouro que vitimou quase toda a população masculina.
GODLESS tem todos os elementos do faroeste clássico, a começar pelo enredo que leva a um duelo final, a cidadezinha precisando de um herói, o vilão odioso, as personagens marcantes masculinas (o xerife quase cego, o assistente jovem e ambicioso, o pistoleiro em busca de redenção) e femininas (a viúva de passado misterioso, a irmã do xerife assumindo as tarefas masculinas, a prostituta que vira professora, a india velha cheia de sabedoria da vida), grandes paisagens lindas e desérticas e por aí vai.
O elenco também se mostra um show a parte: Jeff Daniels (até surpreendente como o cruel Frank Griffin, o chefe dos bandidos), Michele Dockery(a maravilhosa atriz e cantora inglesa de DOWNTON ABBEY), como a viúva protagonista, o também inglês Jack O’Connell (de 300, INVENCÍVEL e 71:ESQUECIDO EM BELFAST), fazendo o redimido pistoleiro Roy Goode, uma espécie de Shane mais jovem, Scoot McNairy(ARGO), vivendo o xerife quase cego e o jovem Thomas Brodie-Sangster (que já foi o menino ap[aixonado de LOVE ACTUALLY), como o jovem cehio de ambições da delegacia de LABELLE.
GODLESS é para ser deliciado em cada detalhe dos sete episódios ou em cada diálogo maravilhosamente bem escritos por seus roteiristas, retratando toda a grandeza do gênero western. Citações de OS BRUTOS TAMBÉM AMAM, MATAR OU MORRER, PISTOLEIRO SOLITÁRIO, OS IMPERDOÁVEIS, e outros clássicos do western aparecem a cada episódio.
Metafórico, literal, violento, sensual, engraçado, dramático, triste, melancólico e emocionante, GODLESS é um trabalho a ser visto e revisto. Um dos grandes momentos deste ano cinematográfico.
When I first read that Steven Soderbergh was involved, as an Executive Producer, in a new original series by NETFLIX, the western GODLESS, I’ve prepared myself to see a high-level job.
GODLESS is a must-see series for western fans, one of the most spectacular movie genres.
A bloodthirsty outlaw pursues a former partner who, after leaving the gang, went to shelter on a ranch maintained by a lonely woman in the town of LABELLE, New Mexico, where almost all women live because of an accident at the mine of gold that victimized almost the entire male population.
GODLESS has all the elements of the classic western, starting with the plot that leads to a final duel, the little town needing a hero, the hateful villain, the remarkable male (the almost blind sheriff, the young ambitious assistant, the gunslinger in sdearch of redemption) and female characters( the widow of the mysterious past, the sheriff’s sister taking on the masculine tasks, the prostitute who becomes the teacher, the old Indian Witch full of wisdom of life), great beautiful desert landscapes, and so on.
The cast also shows itself a great show: Jeff Daniels (surprising as the cruel Frank Griffin, the boss of the bandits), Michele Dockery (the wonderful actress and English singer of DOWNTON ABBEY) as the protagonist widow, also the English actor Jack O’Connell (from 300, UNBROKEN and ’71), making the redeemed gunman Roy Goode, a sort of younger Shane, Scoot McNairy (ARGO), living the almost blind sheriff and young Thomas Brodie-Sangster who once was the boy in LOVE ACTUALLY.
GODLESS is to be delighted in every detail of the seven episodes or in each dialogue wonderfully well written by its writers, depicting all the greatness of the western genre. Quotes from the SHANE, HIGH NOON, THE PALE RIDER, THE UNFORGIVEN, and other classic westerns appear every episode.
Metaphorical, literal, violent, sensual, funny, dramatic, sad, melancholic and thrilling, GODLESS is a work to be seen and reviewed. One of the great moments of this cinematographic year.
