A reunião deste trio de excelência para uma comédia dramática (ou “dramedie” como dizem os americanos) sobre um casamento que dura mais de 25 anos e passa a sofrer com a chamada “síndrome do ninho vazio”quando o filho do casal vai estudar na Espanha só poderia gerar um filme bastante interessante.
Embora tenha cenas cômicas maravilhosas, é no drama e na profundidade com que aborda a relação, que UM AMOR INESPERADO cresce. E o melhor: como quase todo filme argentino não tem a pretensão de ser uma obra prima, mas apenas um filme a contar sua história e fazer refletir. Entre tantos aspectos de interesse, a abordagem sobre as perplexidades com as novas tecnologias e as redes sociais, como Tinder, Instagram, Skype etc… colocam temas muito atuais no contexto do drama dos personagens.
O título original do filme em espanhol é UM AMOR MENOS PENSADO. Faz mais sentido. Dar maior relevância aos sentimentos do que à racionalidade em um casamento longo. Fui pesquisar e vi que o filme nos estados Unidos vai ser lançado com o mesmo título do Brasil: AN UNEXPECTED LOVE. Mas na França, ganhou uma terceira versão do nome (RETOUR DE FLAMME ou A VOLTA DA CHAMA). De todos, acho o título original o mais adequado. Reflete melhor o que os realizadores quiseram discutir.
Acho que UM AMOR INESPERADO não atingiu a grandeza dos melhores trabalhos de Ricardo Darin, que, na minha opinião seguem sendo O FILHO DA NOIVA e O SEGREDO DOS SEUS OLHOS. Mas, sem dúvida, por seu roteiro inteligente e profundo, por algumas cenas memoráveis dramáticas (a do jantar com o pai em sua casa provisória por exemplo) ou cômicas (o encontro via Tinder), UM AMOR INESPERADO fica bem acima de filmes mais pretensiosos sobre o mesmo tema.
UM AMOR INESPERADO não é (e nem se pretende) um pequeno grande filme. Mas tranquilamente pode ser qualificado como um grande pequeno filme.

Although it has wonderful comedic scenes, it is in the drama and depth with which it approaches the relationship, that AN UNEXPECTED LOVE grows. And the best: as almost every Argentine film is not intended to be a masterpiece, but only a film to tell its story and make reflect. Among so many aspects of interest, the approach to perplexities with new technologies and social networks, such as Tinder, Instagram, Skype etc … put very current themes in the context of the drama of the characters.
The original title of the Spanish film is A LOVE LESS THOUGHT. Makes more sense. Give greater relevance to feelings than to rationality in a long marriage. I went to research and I saw that the film in the United States will be released with the same title of Brazil: AN UNEXPECTED LOVE. But in France, he won a third version of the name (RETOUR DE FLAMME or THE COMEBACK OF THE FLAME). Of all, I find the original title the most appropriate. It better reflects what the filmmakers wanted to discuss.
I think that AN UNEXPECTED LOVE has not reached the greatness of the best works of Ricardo Darin, who, in my opinion, remain THE SON OF THE BRIDE and THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES. But undoubtedly for his clever and deep script, for some dramatic memorable scenes (the dinner with his father in his temporary home for example) or comic (the encounter via Tinder), AN UNEXPECTED LOVE stands well above more pretentious movies on the same theme.
AN UNEXPECTED LOVE is not (and does not even want to) a little great movie. But for sure it can be qualified as a great little movie.
