Este A MELHOR ESCOLHA (LAST FLAG FLYING) é outra soberba demonstração de talento cinematográfico, ao narrar a história de um veterano do Vietnam que busca dois ex-companheiros para a árdua tarefa de ir receber o corpo do filho morto em combate na Guerra do Iraque.
Três excelentes atores, em desempenhos magníficos, cheios de silêncios e olhares altamente significativos, fazem três personagens encantadores (e sofridos) de se ver. Steve Carell (cada vez melhor) faz Larry “Doc” Shepherd, o pai do soldado morto. Bryan Cranston (BREAKING BAD) faz Sal Nealon, o dono de bar inconoclasta e desafiador. E Lawrence Fishburne vive o Pastor Richard Mueller, que encontrou Deus ao se casar e ter filhos.
Os três ex-companheiros de guerra vão exorcisar seus traumas, demônios e desespero na longa jornada para casa levando o caixão do jovem. Com eles, um Mariner Washington, colega do morto, em um ótimo trabalho do ator J.Quinton Johnson (visto na série THE SON).
O filme consegue ser um fortíssimo libelo contra todas as guerras sem mostrar um tiro ou uma cena de guerra sequer. A arte do roteiro em descrever situações e traumas que ganham uma força extraordinária apenas na voz e expressão dos atores é muito bem concebida e executada. O filme é hipnótico em sua dor e tristeza. Ganha força em cada cena. Um verdadeiro road movie dramático e profundo.
A MELHOR ESCOLHA tem frases antológicas trocadas entre os protagonistas. Tipo quando perguntado pelo Reverendo Mueller se acreditava nele, o contestador Sal diz que não. Recebe como resposta: “Você não acredita em Deus. Por que haveria de acreditar em mim?”

The film is a very strong libel against all wars without showing a shot or even a war scene. The art of scriptwriting in describing situations and traumas that gain extraordinary strength only in the voice and expression of the actors is very well conceived and executed. The movie is hypnotic in its pain and sadness. Gains strength in each scene. A true dramatic and deep road movie.
The Last Flaf Flying has anthological phrases exchanged among the protagonists. Like when asked by Reverend Mueller if he believed him, contestant Sal says no. He got the answer: “You don’t believe in God. Why would you believe me?”
