MARÉ ALTA: Uma Mulher à Beira de um Ataque de Nervos

O filme argentino MARÉ ALTA, dirigido pela cineasta Verónica Chen está disponível na NETFLIX.

A trama mostra uma mulher editora que resolve passar uma temporada em sua casa de praia para acompanhar as obras de construção de um quincho (ambiente onde fica a churrasqueira). Deixa temporariamente o marido e os filhos em Buenos Aires e descontrai ouvindo música, tomando (muito) vinho e corrigindo provas.

O roteiro da própria diretora Verónica Chen não tem muita ação.

Em determinado momento, a protagonista (papel feito com muito empenho pela atriz argentina Gloria Carrá) se envolve com o chefe dos operários Weisman (Jorge Sesán). Ali ela perde o controle da situação e vai enfrentar operários cada vez mais ousados e agressivos.

O filme tem algumas cenas muito boas. Acho que a utilização da casa de veraneio belíssima e fartamente envidraçada como um palácio de cristal onde a mulher rica se isola dos operários é bem construída. Laura fica prisioneira em sua própria casa.

MAREA ALTA não chega ao nível dos melhores filmes argentinos recentes. Há cenas francamente ruins, como o gesto de paz dela com os operários lhes oferecendo morcilhas e linguiças para um assado. Sério?

O filme é lento e previsível.

Mas o retrato da deterioração emocional de Laura é bem feito e prende o espectador.

Um bom filme, não mais que isto.

The Argentine film HIGH TIDE, directed by filmmaker Verónica Chen is available on NETFLIX.

The plot shows a book publisher who decides to spend some time at her beach house to watch the construction work on a quincho (where the parilla is located). She temporarily leaves her husband and children in Buenos Aires and relaxes listening to music, drinking (a lot) of wine and correcting exams.

Director Verónica Chen’s own script doesn’t have much action.

At a certain point, the protagonist (a role played with great effort by the Argentine actress Gloria Carrá) gets involved with the worker’s boss Weisman (Jorge Sesán). There, she loses control of the situation and will face increasingly bold and aggressive workers.

The movie has some really good scenes. I think that the use of the beautiful and lavishly glazed summerhouse as a crystal palace where the rich woman isolates herself from the workers is well built. Laura is imprisoned in her own home.

MAREA ALTA doesn’t live up to the best recent Argentine films. There are downright bad scenes, like her gesture of peace with the workers offering them sausages for a barbecue. Really?

The movie is slow and predictable.

But the portrayal of Laura’s emotional deterioration is well done and captivates the viewer.

A good movie, no more than that.
