Ontem vi no Telecine Cult, o filme HAMMETT, que o cineasta alemão Wim Wenders fez em 1982, com produção de Francis Coppola.
Samuel Dashiell Hammett, o escritor de inúmeros livros, entre os quais o clássico O FALCÃO MALTÊS (com o imortal Detetive Particular Sam Spade) já tinha aparecido no ótimo filme JULIA, de Fred Zinnemann, ali interpretado por Jason Robards.
Aqui, Coppola e Wenders levaram às telas um livro de Joe Gores, em que se imagina uma aventura noir do escritor, enquanto escreve um de seus livros.
A trama não pode ser mais noir. Há noites enfumaçadas, trama complicada, lindas mulheres desaparecidas, detetives buscando resolver o mistério, policiais corruptos, traições, femme fatale, tudo o que o gênero recomenda.
O excelente Frederic Forrest (um dos atores favoritos de Coppola) vive Hammett. Mas o elenco tem Peter Boyle, Marilu Henner, Roy Kinnear, Elisha Cook Jr., Lydia Lei, R.G.Armstrong, Richard Bradford, a icônica Sylvia Sidney e Michael Chow.
A cenografia e fotografia do filme são fascinantes. Cada cena traz uma descoberta.
Fico imaginando o que Wenders e Coppola se divertiram criando este filme raro.
HAMMETT terminou sendo uma criativa homenagem a um escritor que deu à literatura e ao cinema algumas de suas maiores histórias.

Samuel Dashiell Hammett, the writer of numerous books, including the classic THE MALTESE FALCON (with the immortal Private Detective Sam Spade) had already appeared in the great film JULIA, by Fred Zinnemann, played there by Jason Robards.
Here, Coppola and Wenders brought to the screen a book by Joe Gores, in which one imagines a noir adventure of the writer, while writing one of his books.
The plot could not be more noir. There are smoky nights, complicated plot, beautiful missing women, detectives looking to solve the mystery, corrupt cops, betrayals, femme fatale, everything the genre recommends.
The excellent Frederic Forrest (one of Coppola’s favorite actors) plays Hammett. But the cast includes Peter Boyle, Marilu Henner, Roy Kinnear, Elisha Cook Jr., Lydia Lei, R.G.Armstrong, Richard Bradford, the iconic Sylvia Sidney and Michael Chow.
The film’s scenography and photography are fascinating. Each scene brings a discovery.
I wonder what fun Wenders and Coppola had creating this rare film.
HAMMETT ended up being a creative tribute to a writer who gave literature and film some of their greatest stories.
