Li esta semana que o MUBI tinha em seu cardápio o recente (2022) e premiado filme argentino EL PERRO QUE NO SE CALLA, dirigido pela cineasta Ana Katz. Ontem fui ver.
O filme tem 73 minutos. Mostra as desventuras de Sebastián (Daniel Katz, irmão da diretora), um jovem argentino de trinta e poucos anos, designer gráfico, que enfrenta todo tipo de dificuldades porque seu cachorro vira lata não é bem vindo nem pelos vizinhos (que se queixam que o pet chora demais quando deixado sozinho) nem pelos chefes no trabalho (indignados porque Sebas resolveu levar o cachorro para o local de trabalho).
O filme é um comédia dramática (e bota dramática nisso). São vários sketches em sequência mostrando o sofrimento de Sebas em sua vida monótona e infeliz.
Lá pelas tantas, o roteiro dá uma guinada. A queda de um meteoro na Terra polui o ar e todos têm que usar um capacete para respirar. A cena em que Sebas e a mulher colocam o capacete no filho pequeno é extraordinária. Só pode deixar de usar o capacete quem andar inclinado, não ultrapassando um metro e vinte de altura.
O filme vem colecionando prêmios em festivais internacionais. Justificadamente. É um filme autoral e que vai ser admirado por quem curte certo experimentalismo nas telas.
É um filme pequeno (em recursos, tempo e pretensão). Mas que dá seu recado com brilhantismo raro e invulgar.
I read this week that MUBI had on its menu the recent (2022) and award-winning Argentine film THE DOG WHO WOULDN’T BE QUIET ( EL PERRO QUE NO SE CALLA), directed by filmmaker Ana Katz. Yesterday I went to see.
The film is 73 minutes long. It shows the misadventures of Sebastián (Daniel Katz, brother of the director), a young Argentine in his early thirties, a graphic designer, who faces all kinds of difficulties because his stray dog is not welcomed even by the neighbors (who complain that the pet cries a lot when left alone) nor by the bosses at work (indignant because Sebas decided to take the dog to the workplace).
The film is a dramedy (and very dramatic). There are several sketches in sequence showing the suffering of Sebas in his monotonous and unhappy life.
At some point, the script takes a turn. A meteor hitting Earth pollutes the air and everyone has to wear a helmet to breathe. The scene in which Sebas and his wife put the helmet on their young son is extraordinary. People can only stop wearing the helmet if he walks bent over, not exceeding five feet in height.
The film has been collecting awards at international festivals. Justifiably. It is an authorial film that will be admired by those who enjoy a certain experimentalism on screen.
It is a small film (in resources, time and pretension). But it delivers its message with rare and unusual brilliance.
