A HBO MAX está exibindo a mini série (7 capítulos) LOVE AND DEATH, uma nova versão para o crime cometido pela americana Candy Montgomery, já retratado em CANDY, com Jessica Biel.
Aqui é a ótima Elizabeth Olsen que vive Candy, uma pacata dona de casa, casada e com dois filhos, vivendo em uma pacata comunidade religiosa do estado do Texas, que na década de setenta matou com golpes de machado a vizinha esposa do homem com quem tinha um caso extra conjugal.
O brutal crime é daqueles que parece impossível. Ler na internet os detalhes do crime e do julgamento é um exercício difícil e assustador.
Gosto bastante do tratamento que o produtor David E. Kelley deu à história em LOVE AND DEATH.
O crescente clima de horror fica atraente quando colocado dentro da história banal dos habitantes daquela comunidade. Por exemplo, na noite em que matara a vizinha, Candy tranquilamente levou as crianças (inclusive uma das filhas da morta) ao cinema para ver O IMPÉRIO CONTRA ATACA. Claro que a cena escolhida da trilogia Star Wars é aquele em que Luke, para não morrer congelado, eviscera um monstro para se aquecer.
O elenco tem Jesse Plemons, Patrick Fugit, Lily Rabe, Krysten Ritter e Elizabeth Marvel.
É particularmente intrigante o fato do crime brutal ter ocorrido numa comunidade profundamente religiosa, que vive ao redor do templo e das atividades ecumênicas comandadas pelo pastor junto aos seus fiéis.
LOVE AND DEATH é muito bem feita.
E a história de Candy Montgomery merece ser conhecida e refletida.
